OK... I admit I have been drooling since the news and pictures of the latest Kindle appeared at Amazon. It is a beauty, and I love the idea of it being able to tap into a nice fast wifi connection when available. Combine that with a smaller size without a smaller screen and it is definitely a winner.
Now what to do with my perfectly good Kindle 2 with its (very expensive) Oberon hand crafted leather cover. And... if I do break down and add the latest Kindle to my home, how soon before Oberon has a cover for it too? How dare they (Amazon) make something so neat and so tempting to a bibliophile?
There is even a choice of colors this time around!
AND... Here are a couple of new free offerings in the Kindle book store.
Note: If you are reading this on your Kindle and want to get a book from the Kindle store now, type the title with your Kindle, then toggle your 5-way switch to the right until the word store is highlighted. Press in on it to search. When the title comes up, use the 5-way toggle switch to move around the book info area to read more about the book. Make sure it is still free (or an acceptable price) before finally pressing in on the 5-way switch to "buy" it. You can always press the back button (before you press buy) if you change your mind.
And remember... what is FREE today may not be FREE tomorrow, so get it while you can!
Both of these little goodies sound like just the thing to take you away! Addictive as junk food... chocolate in particular.

Manybooks.net additions for your Kindle library
July 30, 2010 Cindy O'Neal
Simply GREAT Books
Manybooks.net note: You can actually download these books from your Kindle, directly from the web site. It is certainly worth clicking these book links and experimenting with your 5-way toggle. It may be a little clunky, but actually works fine. You will make good use of that free Amazon whispernet connection. The .mobi file format is my personal favorite for books from Manybooks.net on my Kindle, but you can also use .prc, .txt, and .azw files with no trouble. Experiment with them all and decide for yourself which formats you like the best. Manybooks.net books are always FREE!

To Have and To Hold
A Story of Virginia in Colonial Days
Mary Johnston
Even his King could not force him to give up the woman he loved! One of America's most famous and beloved historical novels.
Twice adapted to the screen, first as a silent film in 1916 by Jesse L. Lasky’s Famous Players company, directed by George Melford and starring Wallace Reid and Mae Murray. Then again in 1922, Lasky recreated the film starring Bert Lytell and Betty Compson.

At the Time Appointed
A. Maynard Barbour
The fortunes of a young mining engineer who through an accident loses his memory and identity. In his new character and under his new name, the hero lives a new life of struggle and adventure. The volume will be found highly entertaining by those who appreciate a thoroughly good story.
The Chestermarke Instinct
J.S. Fletcher
John Horbury, manager of Chestermarke's bank, in the old-world English village of Scarnham, vanishes overnight. The task of finding him taxes the skill of one of Scotland Yard's best men. A rather well written detective story.
The Ware Tetralogy
Software; Wetware; Freeware; Realware
Rudy Rucker
Your Guide to the 21st Century!
It starts with Software, where rebel robots bring immortality to their human creator by eating his brain. Software won the first Philip K. Dick Award.
In Wetware, the robots decide to start building people —and people get strung out on an insane new drug called merge. This cyberpunk classic garnered a second Philip K. Dick award.
By Freeware, the robots have evolved into soft plastic slugs called moldies —and some human “cheeseballs” want to have sex with them. The action redoubles when aliens begin arriving in the form of cosmic rays.
And with Realware, the humans and robots reach a higher plateau.
(Includes an introductory essay by William Gibson.)

Face of Betrayal (Triple Threat Series #1) ~ Wiehl, Lis and Henry, April
From Publishers Weekly (from Amazon)
Wiehl, a Fox News commentator and legal analyst, teams with mystery veteran Henry (Buried Diamonds) on a sizzling political thriller. When 17-year-old Senate page Katie Converse goes missing on her Christmas break near her parents' white Victorian home in Portland, Ore., law enforcement and media personnel go into overdrive in a search for clues. Three friends at the pinnacle of their respective careers—Allison Pierce, a federal prosecutor; Cassidy Shaw, a crime reporter; and Nicole Hedges, an FBI special agent—soon discover that Katie wasn't the picture of innocence painted by her parents. It appears Katie was having an affair with a much older man, a senator whose political career could be derailed if the affair was publicized. The seamless plot offers a plethora of twists and turns. A blurb from Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly will help draw attention to Wiehl's debut. (Apr.)

Home in Portland, OR, for Christmas, 17-year-old Senate page Katie Converse disappears while walking the family dog. The case attracts three women—FBI agent Nicole Hedge, federal prosecutor Allison Pierce, and TV reporter Allison Shaw—who are determined to find Katie and bring her kidnapper to justice. This joint effort by Fox News correspondent Wiehl and mystery author Henry is a good choice for readers of Lisa Gardner's The Survivors Club and James Patterson's "Women's Murder Club" series.

Kindle Gifts
July 27, 2010 Cindy O'Neal
The Gift you don't have to worry about being returned:
If you know someone who has a Kindle, you can pretty well bet reading is a passion for them. It makes it really for you when it comes to those special times when you want to give that person something they will really enjoy.
Give them an Amazon Gift Certificate. You can be sure it will fit perfectly, and your Kindle lover will put it to great use. A $25 gift certificate is good for at least 2, possibly even more books, and in my book that adds up to many hours of great reading - and thinking nice warm fuzzy thoughts about the person who gave the gift of reading.
Anyone who knows me knows an Amazon gift certificate will ring my chimes in a huge way! I just love it, and my Kindle does too! I guess you could call it.... Kindle Food!

So when a raging fire breaks out and threatens to destroy the Hammond farm, both families are affected by the tragedy. But how did the fire start? Several of the kids know the truth, but no one is talking. As the families try to overcome aching loss, misplaced blame, troubled relationships, and an upsetting secret, they once again find themselves clinging desperately to their trust in God. In this compelling tale of faith, hardship, and community, acclaimed author Leisha Kelly continues the much-loved story of the Wortham family, who with courage and determination discover the power of forgiveness to restore and heal.
