Clotho's Loom: A Novel of Literary Romance and Realism (FULL version)

Product Description
First Edition.

William Wyrd, an introverted history professor at long remove from his youthful days as a marine sniper, is drafted to serve overseas in the U.S. military at age thirty-nine. Already in a relationship made tenuous by the demands of dual professional careers and their own dearth of interpersonal experience, he and his wife are completely estranged by the blunder on the part of the government. But is this merely human error at work, a bad mix of circumstances—or warping of the skein of Fate? In the tradition of Robert Ludlum's Bourne Identity and follow-up novels, this literary action-adventure tale tests whether one's present choices, and even ultimate destiny, need be determined by one's past.

CLOTHO’S LOOM tracks the struggles of a husband and wife to reunite against forces arrayed to keep them apart. Will decides to keep his reactivation a secret, and deal with the claims from his dark past alone. Assured by faceless authorities that there has been no mistake, and given a date to report, he falls in with political undesirables and succumbs to their attempt to recruit him. He soon embarks on a quest for identity that leads him around the globe. Meanwhile, his partner, pregnant and abandoned, must navigate the no-less-treacherous task of survival at a highly politicized law office, dominated by two temperamentally opposite bosses, and the glass ceiling they erect over her. The narrative proceeds in an alternating chapter structure, paralleling Will’s masculine adventures with those of a woman enduring both professional and domestic perils. The common solution: a razing of egos, and the tempering of two spirits into alloy, alchemized by the common love of a child.

To Cindy and her Wizard followers:

What better way to celebrate and savor the dog days of summer than with a book that takes place in summer and is chock full of the things we love about this time of year: boating, fishing, water sports, outdoor parties, summer romance, s'mores, and of course, carnage. There's just something about summer carnage that tastes sweeter.

No need to connect your Fire...

If you have a pdf file that isn't larger than your email provider will allow, you can attach it and email it to yourself. Pick up the email on your Kindle Fire and "open" the attachment.  You don't even need to send it to your special Kindle email address… Send it to yourself to your normal email address, then open your Kindle and do a quick email run (if you have gmail, you can go to gmail.com with the browser and check).

You're going to love this next part….

Once you have the email displayed on your Kindle Fire, touch the Open button to the right of the attachment and let your Kindle Fire download it. If you choose Save, your file will be sent to a download folder. You can find it any time with other software there.

The next little dialog you will see will offer you choices (some may see more than others) of apps you can open the file with. Choose Kindle. Your Kindle reading app will open and you can peruse that pdf at your leisure.

Enjoy!

Oh... I did notice using these choices, your pdf file will NOT be saved in your Kindle docs. When you leave your Kindle app, then return to it later, you will need to re download the file and open it in your Kindle app. The only way I could see to "store" it there was to physically transfer the pdf file via usb to the documents folder. Another way would be to email it to your special Kindle email address

Personal Files

Folders on my Kindle Fire
May not be the same on yours...
When you hook your Kindle to your computer with that USB connection, you have a great opportunity to see the actual folders on it. That USB connection causes your computer to see your Kindle as an external drive, very different from what you are used to seeing when you have it in your hands and it is working its magic.

On your Kindle Keyboard, and Kindle Touch, the folder structure is a little different from the Kindle Fire. The Documents folder is where your books are, and any pdf or Kindle compatible file dragged into this folder will show up on your main (Home) screen as a "book" or document for you to read.

The Kindle Fire is a different animal. It has a folder (Books) for things you have purchased from Amazon. I suppose you could drag Kindle files (.azw) into this folder too and they are treated as "books," meaning you touch the word "Books" at the top of your Kindle home screen and anything on your little machine will be listed, with a nice link to the "cloud/archives" too. There is another link to "Docs" at the top of your Kindle Fire main screen too... This is the one that will take you to any personal files (like pdf and other files) you may have stored on your Kindle.

When you look at the folders on your Kindle Fire the next time you connect it to your computer, be sure to notice the separate Documents and Books folders. Now you know why.

Got PDF Manuals?

When was the last time you had to (God forbid!) dig around for a manual to a dishwasher, washing machine; dryer, or any number of home entertainment devices? It's a very organized person who can lay hands on exactly what they need in a timely manner in just about any house. If you are one of those, my hat is certainly off to you!

The last few manuals I needed (and couldn't find around the house) ended up falling in my lap (literally) via the Internet. It is amazing what a simple Google Search using your model number and the words user guide or owners manual in the search terms can turn up. In less than a minute I had exactly what I needed, and a minute later it was on my Kindle Fire safely tucked in the documents folder. That is where you put files your Kindle Fire can open but you didn't get them from Amazon. When you turn on your Kindle Fire, touch docs instead of books and if your Kindle Fire can read it, it will be listed.

I have to say... the Kindle Fire does great pdf files! And the Internet? Well I found an owner's manual for a 40+ year old Singer sewing machine.

So... look around, for pdfs with your Kindle Fire in mind... you will be surprised what you can find!
