Kindle Skills - Finding Your Place

June 23, 2010 Cindy O'Neal

Progress Indicator:
You have probably noticed it at the bottom of the screen when you have a book open on your Kindle. As you read, the percentage number changes to indicate where you are in the book, with 0% being the absolute beginning of the  book and 100% being the end.

Your Kindle also shows you a numeric location number so you always know exactly where you are in any book you are reading. You can even share these numbers with a friend who may be reading the same book. They can "go to" that number on their Kindle and see exactly what you are referring to. This works even if they are using a different text size from yours. Location numbers are always the same, regardless of text size.

Look to the far right of the progress indicator bar and you will see the ending location number. The current location number (where you are right now) is about in the middle, to the left of the ending number. It's not quite pages, but certainly more exact.

Go To menu...
When you have a book open on your Kindle, press the Menu button. Toggle the 5-way switch down to the words Go to... until it is underlined. Press in on the 5-way to see what your new go to options are with the version 2.5 update.

You can type in a number, then toggle the 5-way switch down until the word location is highlighted, then press in on the 5-way and go to any specific location number in the book or you can toggle the 5-way down once, then to the right until other choices are highlighted. Press in on the 5-way to make it happen. The 5-way choices are cover, table of contents, beginning or location.
