- Make sure your Kindle is fully charged and your charger cable is packed and stored with your Kindle. If you are going overseas and aren't sure if you have a proper adapter, take it anyhow... just in case. I have found folks in England and Ireland very helpful in these types of matters, and awfully kind to a confused visitor.
- Put all your favorites on your Kindle. All those freebies we have been gathering over the last several months? Make sure they are on your Kindle and not in the Amazon Archives.
- Add an audio book or two to your Kindle Audible folder or a few of your favorite mp3 music files.. Add a pair of earbuds and your kindle can double as an mp3 player. Be sure where you are going isn't going to have a battery charging issue if you do this.
- Just before you leave, turn off the Internet from your Kindle. This will greatly expand the battery life (at least a couple of weeks easily if you have a new Kindle 3, possibly even a month), so even if you are going somewhere you will need an adapter, you may not need it if you already have a bank of books stashed and a full battery starting out.
- Make sure you have a protective cover for your little machine. Don't want to lose it to a nasty accident.
- Be prepared to tell strangers about your Kindle. It is certainly a conversation starter!
