Kindle Skills - View Archives

If you have been purchasing books on Amazon for your Kindle, you probably already have a pretty good library started. If you have been taking advantage of all the free books I have been tossing in your direction via this blog, you really have a library going on! You could very easily, over a period of just a few months, have hundreds of books available from Amazon. You don't have to keep them all on your Kindle. You can right click any of the books you purchased (free or not) and choose to Remove from Device. The book will be removed from your Kindle only. Amazon will always save a copy of it for you in the cloud of your Account Information. You can get it back at any time, either in the Manage My Kindle area of your account information or from your Kindle itself, as long as it is connected to the Internet. The Archived Items area is a really fun place to browse.

Note: Archived items are only books purchased (or free) from the Amazon store. These do not include any free books you have acquired from other places, like Manybooks.net. Those you need to archive yourself, in a special folder on your computer, a recordable CD or some other memory stick-type device or external drive.

There are two different ways you can get to the Archived Items in your Kindle account. Both are from the Home screen on your Kindle. Use the 5-way switch to navigate to the one you want, then press in on the center button to visit your archives.

  • Press the Menu button. You will see the option to View Archived Items just below the shopping option.
  • The very last entry on your Home screen. If you have several pages of books on your Home screen, it will be the last entry on the last page.
