Kindle Not Required - iPhone/iTouch/iPad

Another free sample chapter from the book... This was meant for this blog but fit real nicely into the book.

iPhone/iTouch/iPad
Oh my! The FREE Kindle software for the iPhone, iTouch and iPad makes having any of them an even more fun experience.

Add an extra Kindle to your collection by simply visiting the Apple app store (you know how if you have one of these) and picking up the Kindle app. The first time you use it, you will be prompted for your Amazon.com account email and password, and you will be good to go. Your little device will become an extra Kindle. It's nice to see something do double duty in such a useful way.

I know the iPhone is little, much smaller than the Kindle, but give the Kindle app a try. You will be surprised how easy it is to read a book in the palm of your hand. If you don't have a Kindle yet (or know someone in that situation), and want to get a taste of ebooks, the Kindle software for your device will give you access to all the same books available to people with Kindles.

For one thing, you will have color, something Amazon needs to figure out how to accomplish, while keeping the easy on the eyes e-ink. I have faith they will come up with something sooner rather than later.
The text size really is easy to read on the iTouch and iPhone. A flick of your finger is all you need to go from page to page. Like the Kindle, the software on these devices will also remember your place if you need to do something else and come back to your book later. Since these devices are back lit, and not e-ink, you will find yourself being able to read quite nicely in darker rooms or areas, like maybe a car at night without having to add an external light.

The iPad is going to be an amazing challenge to Amazon's Kindle. With its color display, magazines and pdf files are easier to read, a joy in fact. And books with the Kindle software are amazing too. You won't be reading much from your iPad in direct sunlight, but I don't know if that is much of an issue for most folks. It is an amazing little machine, in more ways than one. If you already have one for reasons other than reading, add the Kindle software and watch it really earn its keep.
