for the next few days actually... Thank you Emily!

A Duke squares off with a damaged, dangerous war veteran in TETHERBIRD, a novel called "amazingly powerful and beautifully written."

***
Former sniper Benjamin Cane's life is ripped apart after his version of the Bin Laden assassination is disavowed by the Marines, written off as a conspiracy theory. Displaying symptoms that could be PTSD, the man who returns from war is an entity his wife Mackey struggles to comprehend. Following an accident with his twin boys that never should have happened, Benjamin leaves the service, his life in a tailspin.

A Duke in the stately Gloucestershire countryside offers Benjamin a job in security. Surrounded by characters as eccentric as they are paranoid, Benjamin tries to navigate an environment rife with guns and outdated class structures, feeling like flotsam as a new civilian without his family.

Grisly and emotional twists surprise in this poignant tale narrated by cynical war crimes journalist Stanley Tern, who enters Benjamin's life to offer redemption and to pursue his own hidden agenda. Through layered, textured prose, TETHERBIRD asks whether our modern-day, gun-toting homelands may be more treacherous than any battlefield.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Read Tetherbird in solitude. Savor McDaid's mastery at weaving her language together and allow yourself to pay attention to all the voices. I invite you to do as I did and enjoy the story at leisure as it unfolds clearly before your mind's eye. If you do, you will join me in giving Tetherbird at least four stars and be tempted, were it allowed, to give it eleven." -- Kindle Book Review suspense novel reviewer Roger Woodbury

"The plot is well crafted. Even improbable events make perfect sense." -- Rachel Creager Ireland, author of Post Rock Limestone Carytids

"I haven't come across a writer like Emily McDaid in quite some time - if ever.  A highly intelligent writer, McDaid's laser-precision focus on creating compelling characterizations combined with unique, thought-provokng plots will jolt you awake and re-ignite your excitement for suspense novels." -- Bianca Sloane, author of Live and Let Die

Kitchen Addiction! (Mina Kitchen novels)

Meet Mina Kitchen, a forty-something single who likes to cook - and cook and cook. In fact, her zest for whipping up trays of canapes is dwarfed only by her weird luck and mountain-lion size tabby cat, Vinnie. That, and her godmom's tendency for blackmailing new members into joining St. Bart's. Okay, maybe Mina's Swiffer-addicted neighbor, Vito, is a bit weird, too. As if all that wasn't enough, Mina's a Jersey girl transplanted in the midst of the Amish-flavored countryside of Lancaster, PA.

Things get really complicated when she learns that her neighbor Vito is in a witness protection program, and her dry cleaner deals in prescription samples. Throw in a few mysterious flaming feces flingers and a fuse box labeled in Arabic, and you have a recipe for catering disorders.

Kitchen Addiction! will keep you smiling when you're not LOL-ing. Set in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, you'll find a surprising cast of characters, humorous plot twists, red herrings and actual recipes. Well, some of the recipes are real. The others you might to take with a pinch of salt, and some Tums.

If you're looking for a funny fiction read, packed with humor, excitement - and recipes - look no further. Lund's debut "chick lit" novel blends fun characters, great dialogue and zany capers into a frothy fiction that's sure to amuse. The novel also delivers a virtual tourist romp through the actual streets of Lancaster City and its surroundings.

From the Author

Book Description

 June 10, 2013
With more than 50 recipes and lots of tips, How to Cook from Scraps is the perfect book for anyone who wants to go beyond meals that come out of a box or the freezer aisle. Learning to cook from scraps is about cooking efficiently and throwing away less. Sometimes cooking from scraps is learning to reinvent leftovers. Sometimes it is making your own broth. Cooking from scraps is always about making the food you already have in your house go further.

Cooking efficiently means saving money, creating less waste, and making meals entirely at home. Using the recipes and advice in How to Cook from Scraps, you will utilize every part of your food (even vegetable peels) and run your kitchen in a way that caters to this kind of efficiency. This book focuses on the recipes that are both from scraps and from scratch, but you will find as you make the meals that the tips for cooking this way will make you think differently about how your kitchen is organized.

If you don’t do any cooking from scraps or scratch yet, don’t be daunted. We will take you through the steps you need to change from a throw-away kind of kitchen, to a kitchen that makes wholesome and “whole” foods.

Penelope ( A Madcap Regency Romance )
Leaving behind the rural charms of Finnshire, Miss Penelope Fairweather arrives in London with hope in her heart and a dream in her eye. The dowager, no less, has invited her for a season in London, where she will attempt to catch a husband.

Thus begins our heroine's tale as she attempts to tackle the London season with all her rustic finesse. Unfortunately, her rustic finesse turns out to be as delicate as a fat bear trying to rip apart a honeycomb infested with buzzing bees.

What follows is a series of misadventures, love affairs, moonlit balls, fancy clothes, fake moustaches, highwaymen, sneering beauties, pickpockets, and the wrath of a devilishly handsome duke.

I STILL LOVE my Kindle Touch!

It is amazing what a "wifi update" can do, and Amazon has been great at keeping their various Kindle devices updated and improved on a regular basis. Just when I was getting a little annoyed with my Kindle Touch (purchased last year) I picked it up this morning and noticed a little different look to the screen when I turned it on. More important, it seems to be working better too... the touch a little more consistent, swiping much more precise and page turning a little more frisky. I don't know what they did and I don't much care (not needing to know just how that particular sausage was made), but it is enough of an improvement for me to want to use it again, and not "need" to look with lust at the Kindle Paperwhite any more for the time being.

The nice thing I have noticed about the Kindles is that once you have one, you will be able to get years out of it, without wanting to "upgrade" every year. The newer ones are nice, but the newer features aren't so earth shattering to "need" to replace an old faithful. Kind of reminds me of my iPhone and other Mac products, in the way they keep the older devices updated so the line between older and newer models is pretty blurred.

I like that. AND the prices are getting better and better every day, so if you are looking to get a new one, this is a great time. I like to pass my older Kindles on to friends and family. It is a great way to share and my Kindles get a great new home and someone else to enjoy reading with them.

Defending Elton

 March 19, 2013
TV scriptwriter TJ Cooke has come up with a highly original concept, and a gripping plot. The story revolves around maverick London lawyer Jim Harwood, his on-off relationship with work colleague Loren, and his whirlwind romance with the beautiful yet enigmatic Sarena.

Jim is instantly smitten by Sarena, a Sri Lankan beauty who is in London to further her studies. However, with a jealous Loren on their tail, their dalliance comes to a sudden and catastrophic end, one which Jim fears might see both him and Loren charged with murder.

Though Sarena’s demise was accidental, Jim knows that to a jury it will look like a classic ‘love triangle’ murder. He reckons he has no option but to distance both Loren and himself from the crime scene, and does so by providing the police with both an alternative scenario and a far more likely suspect...

...Enter the hapless Elton Spears, an unhinged and gullible ‘care in the community' patient. Jim knows that Elton is potentially dangerous, and that he has committed previous crimes which might suggest he’s the likely assailant. He seems the perfect patsy.

Indeed, Jim seems to have all bases covered... not only has he used all his criminal law experience to frame Elton, but he represents him too, thereby having control and conduct of his case...

Jim’s strategy to escape from criminal culpability seems as risky as it is reprehensible, and when things start to go wrong at Elton’s murder trial he not only regrets his actions but seeks a path to redemption.

Meanwhile the unpredictable Elton starts to recall details which suggest that Jim is covering his tracks. Jim also fears that Loren might have her own agenda, one which will see Jim carry the can whilst she emerges unscathed... but it’s the suggestion that some other unknown and altogether darker forces are at play which causes Jim to worry even more.

Haunted both by his actions and his past, Jim finds that his efforts to ‘put things right’ are overtaken by events. He may have cleverly outwitted the authorities, and skilfully manipulated the system, but playing with truth can be a very dangerous game...

Described as a ‘devilishly clever and inventive tale’ and a ‘tense and edgy thriller’ Defending Elton is full of neat twists and turns, which keep you guessing how things will turn out, right to the unexpected end. Fay Samuels

Race-Baiting Insanity: Academic Goals, "White Privilege", & The NRA (Race-Baiting Insanity Series #7)

In the history of the United States, race has been an ongoing issue that we have wrestled with. Most everyone agrees that racism is bad and needs to be addressed whenever it appears. What is unfortunate is that liberals/Democrats, sometimes referred to as the Left, while they give lip service to combating racism, actually use race to bludgeon their opponents and make them out to be racist. As will be illustrated in this volume and the whole of the series, it is those on the Left who are racist, or think racism exists when there is none.

This volume expands on the shameless racial issues in schools and shines a light on how an entire school system is using race in student academic goals, how Mitt Romney (and by extension his wife Ann, and probably his children) is only successful because of "white privilege", and how a sports reporter, while capitalizing on an NFL player's murder/suicide for personal gain and exposure, managed to label the National Rifle Association as the "new KKK".
