July 26, 2010 Cindy O'Neal

Rename a Collection:
  • It's all in the 5-way switch and toggling to the right while you are on the Home screen and the collection name you want to change is underlined. One of your choices will be to rename the collection. Toggle your 5-way down to that and press in on it to make it happen.
  • Type in the new name for your collection.
  • Note: All the books you previously put in the collection while it had the before spelling will remain in the same collection after you have changed the name.
  • Press the Home button to return to the Home screen.
Easy as pie!

Kindle Skills - Collections

July 20, 2010 Cindy O'Neal

Moving Books Around:
You can have a book in more than one collection at a time. You can also move a book from one collection to another.

An easy way to think of it is this. Moving a book from one collection to another is really removing it from one collection, then adding it to another collection.

  • Toggle the 5-way switch to the book you want to move.
  • When the book you want to move is underlined, toggle the 5-way switch to the left to see the remove from collection choice.
  • Press in on the 5-way switch to choose remove from collection
  • This will put the book back into the main Home page area
  • Press the Home button and toggle the 5-way switch until your book is underlined (selected) again.
  • Toggle the 5-way switch to the right so you see choices again.
  • Press in on the 5-way when the words Add to Collection is underlined
  • Use the 5-way switch to navigate to the collection you want is underlined and the words add to this collection is showing.
  • Press in on the 5-way switch to make it happen.
  • Press the Home button to return to the Home screen.

Kindle Skills - Sorting by Collections

June 20, 2010 Cindy O'Neal

When you Sort by Collections on your Home screen, don't worry about the latest book you were reading. The collection it is in will be listed first, and when you open that collection, your book will be listed at the top. When you open the book, your exact place (where you were last) will be preserved too.

And when you just put your Kindle to sleep with your latest book open where you are currently reading, the next time you start your Kindle, that page will be front and center as usual.

More on managing content in your collections from Amazon:

  • Collections are stored on Amazon: When you create a collection on a device, Amazon will save your collection. It will appear in the Archived Items on other devices registered to your Amazon account. This allows you to transfer entire collections from one registered Kindle to another registered Kindle (or Kindle device)
  • Books are associated with collections until removed: If you add a book to a collection, then delete the book from your device, it will remain associated with that collection in Archived Items on Amazon. You will just be removing it from that particular Kindle. If you download the book again, it will automatically reappear in the appropriate collection on your Home screen.
  • Books can appear in more than one collection: You can associate a single book or other item from your library with multiple collections if you wish.
  • Collections don't change device or Archive Items content: If you delete a book from a collection or delete an entire collection from your Kindle, it does not change the actual items saved on your Kindle or in your Archived Items on Amazon. When you delete a collection from your Kindle, any items in that collection will then appear on the Home screen instead of the collection.
